The Most Expensive Object Ever Constructed - International Space Station

The International Space Station (ISS) is an internationally developed research facility, which is being assembled in low Earth orbit. On-orbit construction of the station began in 1998 and is scheduled for completion by 2011. The station will remain in operation until at least 2015. With a greater mass than that of any previous space station, the ISS can be seen from the Earth with the naked eye, and, as of 2010[update], is the largest artificial satellite orbiting the Earth. The ISS serves as a research laboratory that has a microgravity environment in which crews conduct experiments in biology, human biology, physics, astronomy and meteorology. The station has a unique environment for the testing of the spacecraft systems that will be required for missions to the Moon and Mars. The ISS is operated by Expedition crews, and has been continuously staffed since 2 November 2000—an uninterrupted human presence in space for the past 9 years and 75 days. As of 1 December 2009, the crew of Expedition 22 is aboard.

World's Biggest Digging Machine by Krupp

World Biggest Digging Machine by Krupp 00
This is the largest digging machine (or trencher or rotating shovel) in the world. It was built by Krupp and is shown here crossing a road in Germany on the way to its destination, an open air coal mine. Although at the mine the treads are unnecessary, it was cheaper to make the machine self-propelled than to try and move it with conventional hauling equipment. Some factoids:
  • The machine is 95 meters high and 215 meters long (almost 2.5 football fields in length)
  • Weight is 45,500 tons (that's equivalent to a bumper to bumper line of jeeps 80 miles long)
  • It took 5 years to design and manufacture at a cost of $100 million
  • Maximum digging speed is 10 meters per minute
  • Can move more than 76,000 cubic meters of coal, rock, and earth per day

10 Fastest Motorbikes of the World

From 1999 to 2000, with one speed demon after another hitting the streets, motorbike manufacturers began to realize that the inter-manufacturer speed war had begun to get out of hand. In 2001, European and Japanese manufacturers agreed upon electronically limiting the top-speed of their motorbikes to 186 mph. Although there are manufacturers that aren’t bound by said agreement, most production motorbikes nowadays have top-speeds equal to or under mentioned limit.
Following is a list of the ten fastest motorbikes of the world in no particular order. Bikes with only the most consistent reported top speeds have been included.

The Largest Passenger Vessel - Oasis of the Seas

MS Oasis of the Seas is a cruise ship in the fleet of Royal Caribbean International. The first of her class, she is expected to be joined by her sister ship Allure of the Seas in November 2010. Both vessels are expected to cruise the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The ship surpasses the Freedom-class cruise ships (also owned by Royal Caribbean) as the world's largest passenger vessel.

Technical details

Oasis measures 225,282 gross tons, almost half again as large as the runners-up, the vessels of the Freedom class, and several times larger than Titanic, of 46,329 gross register tons (a different measure of tonnage). To displace the volume of water necessary for the ship to float, and to keep the ship stable without increasing the draft excessively, the designers created a wide hull. About 30 feet (9 m) of the ship sits beneath the water, a small percentage of the ship's overall height. Wide, shallow ships such as this tend to be "snappy", meaning that they can snap back upright after a wave has passed, which can potentially be uncomfortable. This effect however is mitigated by the vessel's large size. The cruise line's officers were pleased with the ship's stability and performance during the transatlantic crossing, when the vessel, in order to allow finishing work to go on, slowed and changed course in the face of winds "almost up to hurricane force" and seas in excess of 40 feet (12m).

The Biggest Motorcycle - The Monster

The Guinness Book of World Records describes the bike as the world's tallest rideable motorcycle. Greg Dunham built the 15-foot high, 25-foot-long monster bike in three years. It weighs about 6,500 pounds and cost 300,000! Dunham steers it from a cage below the handlebars. The beauty shop owner said he created the monster bike because his friends said it couldn't be done and he wanted to prove it could.

I know what you're thinking. Right now you're probably saying "this a Photoshopped image, right?" Wrong! It is indeed the tallest motorcycle ever built. The behemoth is a real, working motorcycle, is named "The

The Largest Privately Owned Yacht - Octopus

Octopus is currently the world's eighth largest superyacht, owned by Paul Allen, the co-founder of Microsoft, to whom she was delivered in 2003. Octopus is the third largest superyacht that is not owned by a head of state, measuring 414 feet (126 m).

Octopus sports two helicopters on the top deck (one in front and one on the back), and a 63-foot (19 m) tender docked in the transom (one of seven aboard). The yacht also has a pool on board, located aft on one of her upper decks, and two submarines: one operated by remote control for studying the bottom of the ocean. Side hatches at the water line form a dock for jet skis.

The exterior was designed by Espen Øino Naval Architects and built by the German shipbuilders Lürssen in Bremen and HDW in Kiel. Her hull is made of steel. The interior was designed by American designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett of Seattle.

Allen also owns Tatoosh, also one of the world's 100 largest yachts.

China is preparing special speed tracks for this train which will be completed in 2012. 42 different projects of spreading speed lines are currently in progress for the train. After the completion of these new tracks, c The new speed tracks of railways lines will increased from 53,437 miles to 74,564 miles.

The World's Largest Sailing Yacht - Maltese Falcon

Maltese Falcon, the world’s largest sailing yacht 88 meter (289 ft) has been sold for USD 100 million and is built by the Italian Perini Navi Yacht. This boat uses the innovative sailing system DynaRig. It consists of three constantly rotating masts, which hold 15 sails. The maximum speed of the boat is of about 21 knots. Maltese Falcon is able to cross the Atlantic in just 10 days.

Provenance

It was built after the dynaship concept, a 1960s invention of the German hydraulics engineer Wilhelm Prölss, which was intended to operate commercial freight sailing ships with as few crew as possible. The ship has fifteen square sails (five per mast), stored inside the mast; they can fully unfurl into tracks along the yards in six minutes. The three carbon fiber masts, which are free-standing and able to rotate, were manufactured and assembled by a company financed by Perkins at the Perini Navi Istanbul "Yildiz Gemi" (literally: Star Ship) yard in Tuzla, 50 mi (80 km) east of Istanbul, Turkey, under the supervision of the English company Insensys and Dutch company Gerard Dijkstra & Partners. Other design was provided by Ken Freivokh Design. The Maltese Falcon was the third yacht built by Perini for Perkins.

The Most Dangerous Roads of the World

1. Bolivia's "Road of Death"

North Yungas Road is hands-down the most dangerous in the world for motorists. If other roads could be considered impassable, this one clearly endangers your life. It runs in the Bolivian Andes, 70 km from La Paz to Coroico, and plunges down almost 3,600 meters in an orgy of extremely narrow hairpin curves and 800-meter abyss near-misses.

A fatal accident happens there every couple of weeks, 100-200 people perish there every year. In 1995 the Inter-American Development Bank named the La Paz-to-Coroico route "the world's most dangerous road."

Among the route there are many visible reminders of accidents, wrecked carcasses of lorries and trucks lie scattered around at the bottom.

Antonov An-225 - World's Largest Airplane

Currently the world's largest airplane, the An-225 Mriya (dream) is an enlarged version of the An-124. The original purpose of the An-225 was to ferry large components used in the Soviet space program. These duties were formerly performed by a modified M-4 Molot bomber, but this aircraft did not have the payload capabilities required by the rocketry developments of the 1980s. Antonov was called upon to develop a new aircraft capable of carrying the Buran space shuttle, components of the Energiya rocket, or other large cargos required by the construction and mining industries.

To minimize the An-225 development effort, Antonov used the existing An-124 as a starting point. This design was modified by lengthening the fuselage, increasing the wingspan, adding two engines, and redesigning the tail with twin vertical fins. The rear cargo doors were also removed to reduce weight although the An-225 retains a nose door. The greater weight of the An-225 also required four additional pairs of main landing gear tires.

The An-225 took to the air for the first time in 1988 and quickly set 106 world records in just one flight. The massive plane, complete with the Buran orbiter attached, also made quite a stir at the Paris air show in 1989. However, the abandonment of the Buran program after the collapse of the Soviet Union led to the grounding of the sole An-225.

Terex Titan - World’s Largest Truck

The Terex Titan 33-19 was a prototype off-road earth hauler built by the Terex Division of General Motors Corporation in 1974. It was first shown to the public in Las Vegas at the American Mining Congress. Built in General Motors' London, Ontario, Canada plant, the 33-19 was the largest in the Terex 33 series of off-road haulers, others being the 33-03, 33-05, 33-07, 33-09, 33-11 and the 33-15. It had an operating capacity of 350 short tons (320 t), an empty mass of 256 short tons (232 t), and a maximum loaded mass of 606 short tons (550 t). At the time of its construction, it was the largest truck ever built, but the size record was broken by the Caterpillar 797 in 1998 (360-400 US ton/325-350 tonnes).

The Titan was powered by a 16-cylinder 3,300/3,000 horsepower (2,500/2,200 kW) locomotive engine with a displacement of 10,343 cubic inches (169.49 l) coupled to a EMD AR10-D14 generator. This Electro-Motive Division engine, as the 16-645E4 prime mover, was intercooled and turbocharged. The generator then powered 4 electric traction motors, one at each rear wheel. The Terex featured large 40.00x57 tires made of rubber. It is 66 feet (20 m) long and 22.6 feet (6.9 m) tall; or 56 feet (17.1 m) tall with the dump body raised.

Terex assembled the Titan for Kaiser Steel in its Eagle Mountain iron mine in late 1974. At this mine the Titan suffered from downtime problems but eventually hauled some three-and-a-half million tons of earth until 1978.

In late 1978 it was then brought to Kaiser Steel's Sparwood mine in Canada. In 1980 the mine changed hands as B.C. Resources acquired all of the Kaiser property, and was renamed B.C. Coal. In 1983 the mine was again renamed, to Westar Mining, and the Titan also changed colors from lime green to Westar's blue and yellow. Shortly after, Westar directly purchased the Titan from General Motors, for US$200 thousand and $1 million in spare parts. In the following six years the Titan had an uptime rate of over 70% as it hauled loads of over 360 tons during this time. Westar finally retired the Titan in 1991.

World's Longest Car (Limousine)

The longest limousine built ever in the world is a limousine 100-ft long that was created by Jay Ohrberg of Burbank, California. This enormously long car is even in the Guinness Book of World Records now. This limousine rides on 26 tires spaced along the length of its body. It has 2 drivers’ cabins in the front and in the back as it’s really hard to drive such a vehicle. In order the limousine could turn and make turns around corners, its middle part is hinged to fold.

Jay Ohrberg created the longest limousine for exhibition purposes, however this news became a big sensation and many people were dreaming about hiring such a limousine. That’s why Jay provides the limousine for rentals for various functions and events. However the limousine is too long for driving in the streets and technically it’s not quite legal, but with specially trained chauffeurs in both cabins it’s possible.

The longest limousine is equipped much better than many Hollywood mansions, and it’s very popular order for Hollywood movie shootings, exhibitions and special events of nobles. And nobles can get everything they can imagine in such limousine where state of the art luxuries abound. The longest limousine in the world is featuring a heated Jacuzzi tub nestled in the interior, a swimming pool, and a king sized bed, and a sun deck, a helipad and the televisions connected to the limousine’s own satellite dish.

NEOPLAN Jumbocruiser - World's Largest Bus

The NEOPLAN Jumbocruiser was an articulated double-deck multi-axle city coach built by NEOPLAN Bus GmbH between 1975 and 1992. It is only possible to move between the two parts via the upper deck, so they have separate doors and two sets of stairs. Jumbocruiser Ltd., based near Bristol in England, have recently completed the total rebuild of the last Neoplan Jumbocruiser ever built. The coach had rolled over in an accident in Southern France, possibly due to a design flaw in the suspension, combined with a primitive turntable system.

Jumbocruiser Ltd. used the services of Richard Cœur de Lyon (now called the Caross Center) near Mons in Belgium to completely strip down the old coach and rebuild it to a more modern design, and with modified suspension. A modern digital turntable was prepared and fitted by HÜBNER in Germany. The internal combustion engine, gearbox, braking system, wiring looms, and even the dashboard were replaced and upgraded. The new dashboard is now a modernised semi-digital wrap-around unit, instead of the original rust-prone flat unit. Modern front and end caps were fitted, and were eventually reduced after they were found to be too wide.

By 2007, Jumbocruiser Ltd. began to market the bus as a "rock 'n' roll" star sleeper bus.

Bigfoot 5 - World's Biggest & Heaviest Monster Truck

MV Blue Marlin - World’s Largest Transport Ship

MV Blue Marlin and her sister ship MV Black Marlin comprise the Marlin class of semi-submersible heavy lift ship. They were owned by Offshore Heavy Transport of Oslo, Norway from their construction, in April 2000 and November 1999 respectively, until 6 July 2001, when they were purchased by Dockwise Shipping of the Netherlands. They were designed to transport very large semi-submersible drilling rigs, which can weigh 30,000 tons and have a center of gravity around 30 meters (100 ft) above the transport ship's deck. The Marlins are equipped with 38 cabins to accommodate 60 people, a workout room, sauna, and swimming facilities.

History

The U.S. Navy hired the Blue Marlin from Offshore Heavy Transport to move the destroyer USS Cole back to the United States after the warship was crippled in Aden, Yemen, by suicide bombers. During the latter part of 2003, work done on the Blue Marlin boosted its capacity and added two retractable propulsors to improve maneuverability. The ship re-entered service in January 2004. Following these improvements, the Blue Marlin delivered the oil platform Thunder Horse, weighing 60,000 tons, to Corpus Christi, Texas for completion.

World Best Cars

The super-car world was very recently surprised when Russia launched a new and unique brand of super sports cars, the very first Russian sports car, coyly christened Marussia (a popular pet female given Russian name and a play on the English word “Russia,” to make sure everyone knows where this beauty is coming from), released in two models – B1 and B2 – and manufactured in limited numbers.
Now that is a collector’s item requiring careful auto shipping: you don’t want this baby battered by hail, handled roughly, or brutally exploited while you’re not present.

World’s Most Expensive Scooter - Vespa SS90

Vespa was founded in post-WWII Italy when Enrico Piaggio, owner of Piaggio & Co., decided to take his company out of the aeronautics industry. Because many of Italy’s roads had been destroyed, motorbikes like the Cushman were more useful than automobiles. Inspired by the Cushman, Piaggio & Co. began working on a bike of their own. The result was the first globally successful scooter—the Vespa.

The Vespa featured a shield in front that helped keep the driver dry and clean, as well as a step-through frame that could accommodate women in long dresses. The internal mesh transmission eliminated the need for an exterior chain and the front fork design made it easy to change wheels.

The Vespa SS90 Super Sprint was introduced in 1965 and produced until 1971. It featured a narrower front end compared to other Vespas and a glove box and spare wheel mounted in the step-through area of the frame. It didn’t do so well during its run, however, making the SS90 a rare piece of Vespa history today
